What To Wear For Your Photo Session

I know your pet is the star of the show, but your look is important too! When it comes to capturing those special moments with your pet, what you wear can make a big difference in the final photos. While the focus might be on your pet, coordinating your outfit to complement your dog or cat will help create beautiful, cohesive images that you’ll cherish forever.

Picking the perfect outfit doesn’t have to be stressful. In fact, it can be a fun part of the process! Whether you’re planning a casual outdoor shoot or a more formal studio session, a few thoughtful choices can ensure you look and feel great. Plus, the right clothes can help highlight your pet's personality and make the whole experience more enjoyable for both of you.

So, let’s dive into some tips and tricks for selecting the best wardrobe for your upcoming pet photo session. And remember, these are just guidelines—if you have a particular outfit in mind that you absolutely love, we can always adjust our plans to make it work! Inspo pics at the end.

General Tips:

  • Comfort is Key: Make sure you wear something you feel comfy in, especially since we might be sitting on the ground or moving around with your pet. You’ll want to be able to move easily and not worry about adjusting your outfit (short skirts aren't advised)

  • Avoid Matching Outfits: Instead of everyone wearing the same color, try to coordinate your outfits with complementary colors. Think of it as creating a beautiful color palette rather than matching exactly. If you're thinking of ordering wall art, think about the things the images will be next to when considering your color palette.

  • Limit Heavy Prints and Writing: Bold patterns and large logos can take attention away from your faces. Solid colors or subtle patterns are usually a safe bet and look timeless.

  • Mind the Length: If you’re thinking about wearing a skirt or dress, make sure it’s long enough to keep you comfortable when you sit or kneel. You want to look great and feel relaxed.

  • Layers and Textures: Adding layers like a scarf or jacket and playing with different textures can make your photos pop without being too much.

  • Costumes: Having said all this, if you want to show up in a silly or themed costume, GO FOR IT! Happy to help plan a shoot around that as well.

Specific Suggestions:

For Women:

  • Casual and Comfy: Jeans or nice leggings paired with a cute top or sweater work great. If you prefer a dress, go for one that's knee-length or longer so you can easily sit or kneel.

  • Layers: A nice cardigan or jacket can add some depth to your outfit and keep you comfortable if the weather changes.

  • Shoes: Go for comfortable footwear that you can move around in easily. Sandals, flats, boots, or even nice sneakers are perfect. If we're doing something in nature, consider wearing closed toed shoes. For Men:

  • Relaxed and Stylish: Jeans or chinos with a casual button-down shirt or sweater look fantastic. Avoid gym clothes, but don’t worry about being too formal.

  • Comfort First: Make sure you can move around easily, so you’re ready to interact with your pet at their level.

  • Footwear: Clean, casual shoes like sneakers or boots work well. For Kids:

  • Play-Friendly Outfits: Dress them in comfy clothes they can play in. Jeans, leggings, and casual tops are great choices. Avoid clothes with large logos or characters.

  • Layers: A cute jacket or vest can add some fun style and keep them warm if the weather is cool. For Pets:

  • Clean and Cute: If your pet wears a collar or harness, make sure it’s clean and looks good in photos. You can also add a fun accessory like a bandana or bowtie to give them a little extra flair. Take extra tags off their collar for the session, like a license/rabies tag.

Final Touches:

  • Accessories: Minimal accessories can add a nice touch, but avoid anything too flashy or distracting.

  • Footwear: Choose shoes that you can move around in easily. Clean, simple footwear often works best.

  • Weather Considerations: Dress appropriately for the weather to ensure you’re comfortable throughout the session.

And hey, if you have a particular outfit in mind, let me know! We can always tailor our location choice to fit that vibe. The main thing is to feel like yourself and have fun. I can’t wait to capture some beautiful moments with you and your furry friend!
